Social media marketing is today’s buzzphrase, but what does that mean for a small business? Especially a local business as well? It is all very well using facebook to generate revenue, and there might well be a gazillion users on facebook, but when it comes to small business social media marketing it is vital to properly target your potential audience. And only your potential audience.
So, the first thing one must do is properly identify your target audience. Here are a few basic questions you must ask:
- How old are they?
- Which sex are they?
- Where do they live?
- What are their other interests?
- Which social networking site do they hang out on?
I emphasized that last one for a reason. If your target audience is under 20 years old, the chances are they spend most of their time snap chatting so you are wasting a lot of effort if you decide to use facebook as your platform. There are – of course – still a few gazillion 18-24 year olds on facebook, but if you take a look at this chart, you will see the percentage of 18-24 yos on facebook is quite substantially lower than snapchat.
So clearly the first place to start is properly researching your potential customers. All the social networks offer targeted advertising, and used properly offer a good return on investment. Used badly, they can cost you a small fortune. There are now dozens of social media sites to choose from, so choose wisely. Or get an expert to do it for you……….
